Walking Into

Posted on July 31st, 2015

Falling from a sixteenth floor window
then catching myself mid-fall
in order to crawl back up,
take the stairs down to the ground floor
and walk out the front door to freedom
instead of death.

I stop for a moment looking at the curb
where this body would have landed.
Smiling, standing alive,
a little weathered from the fall,
catch, climb and long walk
but nonetheless,
I am smiling again.

Touching gingerly
at the bruises and cuts
already healing and improving.
I look up,
take a deep breath,
turn and begin walking
into the beauty of solitude
where I will find truth.
Where I will find me.
